At AllSafe Bundaberg we are regularly asked how solar power actually works, and also whether it’s still a money-saving option with the current level of government support in the form of rebates on the purchase price. As an introduction to the topic, here’s a short video by AllSafe owner Paul Brodrick:
So how does it work? Solar power is produced by collecting sunlight and converting it into electricity. This is done by using solar panels, which are large flat panels called PV (short for photovoltaic) made up of many individual solar cells.
The conversion of the trapped sunlight into electricity is achieved by an inverter which is connected into your home or business electrical supply.
The sun’s light (and all light) contains energy. When light hits an object, the energy turns into heat, like the heat you feel while sitting in the sun. But when light hits some materials, the energy is turned into an electrical current instead. This is what we harness for power.
When you install solar power in your home, the panels gather energy from the roof and send it via the inverter into your home for your daytime use. Any unused power is sent to the grid for other users to access, and you are given a refund on your electricity account for this ‘export’ amount.
Homes or businesses will gain maximum cost-saving from solar power if they can use the majority of their electricity during daylight hours, either by direct usage or by setting up timers on appliances. So even if you’re at work during the day, you can set appliances/pool filters etc to function in your absence, or schedule high-energy tasks for weekends.
Most of our clients are using the money they save on their electricity bills to pay off their solar power systems within 4 years. After that, the money you would have spent on daytime electricity is in your own pocket. Interest free finance is also available to approved solar power customers.
As you can see, solar power systems are the perfect antidote for rising electricity costs, and for that reason there are many companies in the marketplace trying to secure your business. Allsafe Bundaberg has been supplying and installing energy efficient products from our Burrum Street address for over 17 years, and in that time we’ve seen many other companies come and go. In fact, we are often called on to service systems that were installed by other companies who are out-of-state or out-of-business.
A one-size-fits-all approach may suit other solar companies, but it doesn’t suit your best interests, and the reason we’ve gained a reputation for quality and customer service in Bundaberg is because we understand that each solar power system needs to be tailored to your individual electricity usage and budget. We take the time to show you working systems in our showroom, to come to your home and talk to you about your current usage, your needs and your budget, and if you have questions after your installation, there is always someone at our showroom who can talk through details with you. Some customers want a lot of information, others want their system to be ‘set and forget’. We’re happy to accommodate all our customers needs as their satisfaction has always been our best advertisement.
If you live in Bundaberg or the surrounding area and would like to inquire about a solar power system for your home or business, please call us during business hours on (07) 4151 7667 or leave a message on our Contact Form and we will phone you back. We look forward to speaking with you and offering a free quote on the solar power system that best suits your budget, needs and lifestyle.
